~Press Release~ CASSADY'S "ON THE ROAD" AGAIN! (Monterey, CA) August 17, 2004 John Allen Cassady, son of legendary folk hero Neal Cassady whose travels with Jack Kerouac and Ken Kesey took on mythological proportions in the 1950 's and 1960's, will be touring the country this fall telling tales about his father and his father's associates. And instead of a '49 Hudson (ala Kerouac) or a multicolored 1939 International Harvester School Bus (Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters), John Cassady will be traveling in a classic Airstream motorhome with his friend Jerry Cimino who owns the Beat Museum in Monterey, California and www.kerouac.com. They'll be stopping at colleges, bookstores, coffeehouses and festivals all over the country to talk about the Beats and their influences as the Beat Museum on Wheels brings the story of the Beats nationwide. The Beat Museum on Wheels, which has been dubbed "The Beatmobile" by friends, is a mobile replica of The Beat Museum located in Monterey, CA as well as a traveling bookstore featuring books, videotapes and DVD's, CD, posters, T-shirts and first editions. "John's got stories no one else can tell," Cimino says of his friend. "Kerouac lived at Neal and Carolyn’s house when he was young; Allen Ginsberg was his namesake; he was on a first name basis with Ken Kesey, Jerry Garcia and Mountain Girl. The entire era of the '50's and the '60's unfolded in John's living room." The duo will be spending three months on the road, traveling from California to Massachusetts and back again. They'll be performing at various locations along the way and their educational evenings of entertainment will include readings, video clips and a slide show of the Beat Generation along with Cassady playing guitar and telling personal stories. "This is a good thing," Cassady said, "people have been asking me for years to document my stories and this tour will help me do that." "Beat fans would love for John to write a book," Cimino added," and it'd be great if this tour can be the genesis of that." The Beat Museum on Wheels will be traveling for the months of September, October and November. Detailed information about program specifics and date availability can be found at www.kerouac.com and you can read their blog at (http://www.kerouac.com/ourblog/blog.htm) to follow their adventures on the road.
