Join Gerd Stern as he returns to the Beat Museum for a night of poetry and storytelling.

Gerd Stern is a poet and multi-media artist. He has a number of published books of poetry and his Oral History was published by ROHO, University of California at Berkeley in 2002. Stern was a founder of the communal arts collaborative USCO during the 1960’s.

USCO’s and Stern’s works have been shown in galleries and museums throughout the United States and globally. Among major exhibitions were “Summer of Love” at the Tate, Liverpool; museums in Frankfurt and Vienna, and the Whitney Museum of American Art as well as “Traces of the Sacred” at Paris’ Centre George Pompidou and Munich. Later this year, exhibitions will take place at Seton Hall University in New Jersey and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.

Stern was born on the French/German border in 1928, emigrated to the U.S. as a refugee from Hitler in 1936, and presently lives in Cresskill, New Jersey. He was recently vindicated regarding the found “Joan Anderson letter” which his friend Allen Ginsberg had accused him of destroying over fifty years ago.
