Our exclusive t-shirt featuring the classic tool of the writers’ trade—the Underwood No. 5 typewriter.
First manufactured in 1900, the Underwood No. 5 was called “the world’s first modern typewriter,” and five million were produced by 1939. The ubiquity of the Underwood No. 5 made it relatively inexpensive, despite its expert design and reliability, and thus it was a natural choice for young writers. Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner, and F. Scott Fitzgerald are known to have used the No. 5, and Jack Kerouac owned both a No. 5 and a portable Underwood.
Black t-shirt printed with custom-mixed silver ink containing aluminum shavings for a subtly vintage look.
