1). BIRTHDAY GREETINGS FOR CAROLYN CASSADY
Dozens of people from around the world took us up on our offer to wish Carolyn Cassady a Happy Birthday. When we surprised her with all your birthday greetings she was, in her words, "OMG! I'm gobsmacked" - (that's British for 'pleasantly surprised').

2). UPCOMING EVENTS AT THE BEAT MUSEUM
Boy, do we have some GOOD STUFF coming up:

A). Marc Olmsted & Jonah Raskin
Marc Olmsted and Jonah Raskin welcome the Beat Studies Association to San Francisco with a poetry reading at the Beat Museum.
Fri. May 25th, 7:00pm

B). Matt Theado: On the Road to Hollywood
Drawing from previously-unseen correspondence, professor Matt Theado discusses On the Road's journey from book to film; a journey that began at the urging of Kerouac himself, and his vision is sure to surprise. Unpublished correspondence reveals Kerouac traded letters with acclaimed Movie Producer Jerry Wold in 1958 with ideas about how Jack and Neal might be portrayed in OTR as returning World War II vets readjusting to civilian life. Crazy.
Sun. May 27th, 4:00pm

C). Shig Murao Anniversary + Allen Ginsberg’s 86th Birthday
Please join us at the Beat Museum as we celebrate the legacy of Shig Murao, "the enigmatic soul of City Lights and the San Francisco Beat scene" on the day of his infamous arrest in 1957 for selling Howl to an undercover police officer, and, coincidentally, Allen Ginsberg's birthday.
Sun. June 3rd, 7-10pm

3). UPCOMING NON-PROFIT AUCTION
We received a tremendous response to our last auction. Numerous people wrote to us to tell how much they enjoyed participating and asked us to do it more often and on a regular basis. Well, who are we to argue with what the people want?

ANNOUNCING THE ALLEN GINSBERG BIRTHDAY FUND RAISER
Soon we'll be creating another webpage on Bidding for Good similar to the one we created for The Jack Kerouac Fund Raiser earlier in the year. Look for all kinds of rare, fun and collectible Beat Generation goodies like signed first editions, rare books, historic posters and out of print DVDs.

Look for this exciting auction soon!

4). "ON THE ROAD" AT THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL
As you read this airplanes from around the globe are descending on France with hundreds of people poised to attend The 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival. Some of those people are Walter Salles, Sam Riley, Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund and many other members of the cast and production team from On The Road.

Talk about an exciting time! For over thirty years thousands upon thousands of Beat Generations fans of all nationalities have been anxiously awaiting this historic event. The debates have raged: "Who are the right actors & actresses?" "How can anyone ever do OTR justice?" "What would Kerouac think?" "Don't screw with my personal vision of that book!"

All I know is I've had the pleasure and good fortune to have been witness to this unfolding since 2005 when I sat in John Allen Cassady's living room in San Jose, California along with his mother Carolyn Cassady and his sisters Cathy and Jami as they spoke to screenwriter Jose Rivera who was visiting for the day.

As the core group of both Kerouac and Beat Generation fans we all feel we have a stake in this film. It's a tribute both to a great work of art as well as real-life people most of us never met who had a tremendous impact on many of our lives.

As a fan I couldn't be more proud. After thirty years this is the team of filmmakers who got it done. And they got it done in a fashion that allowed the film to be selected for arguably the premier film festival on the planet - The Cannes Film Festival. No small feat.

Now it's time to sit back and enjoy the show.

5). INTERESTING HAPPENINGS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION
A). 100,000 POETS FOR CHANGE
Right before The Occupy Movement started last year something was in the air and Poet Michael Rothenberg must have sensed it. He created 100,000 Poets for Change. People around the world picked up on it and 100,000 Poets for Change was a success beyond anyone's wildest imagination. They're hosting a modest Fund Raiser so they can make their upcoming second event even bigger and better. Check it out and please contribute if you're so inclined:

B). TERMINALLY ILLIN - THE CANCER COMIC BOOK (funny stuff, really) -
When my friend Jon Solo told me he was working on a comic book about CANCER I'll admit I had my concerns. "What's so funny about cancer?" I asked him. And then I saw the videos of the comic book project they're working on. They ran a fund raiser a year ago and raised enough to create a black & white first printing. Now they're ready to put the finishing touches on the final version. Check it out:

C). THE PAINTED WORD - WRITERS/POETS & PAINTERS
A painting exhibition in San Francisco:
William Saroyan, Kenneth Rexroth, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Jack Hirschman, Jess, Robert Duncan, Michael McClure, Jack Micheline, William S. Burroughs, John Keating, Henry Miller, and Kenneth Patchen, David Meltzer as well as photographs by Chris Felver.
